Martie Holmer's works on paper vary from small watercolors, to larger works in acrylic. While most deal with the world of anthromorpic suggestions and abstraction - in implication and starting point, common to all is the use of color and composition. Martie's work in the 1980's, seen in galleries and museums throughout New England, was often a body of painted wood sculptural pieces, accompanied by drawings and small paintings that described the imaginary 'space' in which the sculptures existed. These drawings formed the basis for the direction the works on paper would take over the next decade. Still visible are the sculptural forms, but now they exist in their imaginary enviroment.
